Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh, Asia Cup 2025 Match: A moment of silence took place ahead of the start of play in the Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Asia Cup 2025 super fours clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

The gesture was made in memory of Sri Lanka all-rounder Dunith Wellalage’s father, Suranga, who passed away on Thursday. The Sri Lanka side also took to the field sporting black armbands in his memory.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field first in the first Super Fours match of the ongoing continental tournament. Notably, Wellalage learned of his father’s passing after the completion of Sri Lanka’s six-wicket victory over Afghanistan, and departed for home on the earliest flight possible.

He returned to the squad and is featuring in Sri Lanka's playing 11 for their opening fixture of the Super 4s phase. Wellalage has played 31 ODIs and five T20Is for Sri Lanka, with the match against Afghanistan, on September 18, being his first appearance in the 2025 Asia Cup. He bowled four overs in that match, picking up the wicket of Ibrahim Zadran while conceding 49 runs.

"I would have done the same thing, but the pitch is on the dry side. It's a used pitch; it doesn't matter if we bat. A lot of young players have come into the side since 2021, and they are now maturing. We are going with the same XI," Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka said at the toss.

Sri Lanka have been in remarkable form and remains only the second team apart from India, to win all of their matches so far in the ongoing tournament. They made it to the Super Fours on the back of group B wins over Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Hong Kong, China.
