JE Sports Desk:  Sri Lanka and Pakistan will lock horns in the two-match Test series starting on Sunday, July 16 (tomorrow).

After being away from the longer format, the Pakistan cricket team will be up for their first assignment of the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Babar Azam-led side had a disappointing result in the WTC 2023 cycle, having lost the series against Australia and England at home while drawing against New Zealand.

Sri Lanka would not be an easy nut to crack in their own backyard but these two Tests provide Pakistan an opportunity to test themselves in the sub-continent.

This will be the 22nd bilateral Test series (11th in Sri Lanka) between these two teams. Out of the previous 21 Test series, Sri Lanka have won six (four in Sri Lanka) as compared to nine (three in Sri Lanka) Pakistan's series victories. The last Test series between these two teams ended in a 1-1 draw.

Talking about the pitch, the Galle International Stadium's playing surface is renowned for being spin-friendly.

However, the average first innings total is above 350. As usual, spinners will be crucial in the fourth innings. The team that wins the toss will is expected to opt for batting first in order to use spin later in the game, given how the surface behaves.
