IND vs CAN, 2024 T20 World Cup: The Indian Cricket team lost a chance to make changes in their team combination in their last group stage match of the ongoing tournament. Their match against Canada on Saturday was abandoned due to inclement weather and a wet outfield. The on-field umpires inspected the ground twice and didn’t wait long enough after 9:00 p.m. IST to make the final decision.

The Rohit Sharma-led side already qualified for the Super 8 stage and with Canada already eliminated, the umpires decided not to take the risk of the player’s safety. Incessant rains resulted in a soggy outfield. Although the ground staff gave them everything, the shortage of covers for the whole outfield resulted in puddles on the ground. The conditions weren’t ideal to hold a game and that left the cricket fans of both the teams disappointed in Florida.

The Men in Blue along with head coach Rahul Dravid were seen taking a lap on the ground and gave autographs to fans when the toss was delayed.

It should be noted here that the on-field umpires waited for an extra hour to assess the conditions for the previous Group A match between Ireland and the USA on Friday. The Babar Azam-led side was eliminated after this match was abandoned as well due to the same reason. USA scripted history by qualifying for the Super 8 and has qualified for the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Complete washout in Florida?

Due inadequate drainage system and the shortage of covers in Florida haven’t led to a good experience as the three matches- Sri Lanka vs Nepal on June 11, USA vs Ireland on June 15 and India vs Canada have all been washed out.

Pakistan will lock horns with Ireland in their last group stage match in Florida and there are high chances that all the matches in this venue would be abandoned. Florida has experienced flash flood alerts for the past week.

The Rohit Sharma-led side finished their group stage campaign with seven points in their kitty after playing in four matches. They became the first team to have qualified for the Super 8 from Group A. USA defeated Pakistan in the Super over and became the second team to have qualified for the next stage in their debut tournament.
