T20 World Cup 2024: Ex-India star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who is also the ambassador of the 2024 T20 World Cup, was seen explaining cricket to the Americans in the famous chat show ‘Good Morning America’. Yuvraj along with the show’s host Michael Anthony Strahan and weather reporter Sam Champion showed the audience how cricket is different from baseball.

Yuvraj admitted that he is looking forward to how they will react once this mega-event starts and is quite hopeful that cricket will grow in the USA in the coming future. The ICC brought the world’s second most populous game to one of the biggest sports markets in the USA since the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup would be held in the USA and the West Indies from June 1 to June 29.

"Never imagined that cricket would be played in America. It's very exciting. The ICC has built a couple of new stadiums, I would like to see the Americans watching the sport," Yuvraj, who was part of the 2007 T20 World Cup winning team was quoted as saying on the show.

The upcoming tournament will be held in nine venues, out of which three of them are in the US. Although there were cricket stadiums in Dallas and Florida, the Nassau County cricket stadium in New York was recently built. Eight matches will be held in this stadium, which also includes India vs Pakistan on June 9.

The ICC gave the USA the hosting rights to help the sport grow beyond its traditional venues. It should be noted here that cricket would also be included in the 2028 LA Olympics.

They asked me what’s cricket.

Talking about the basic difference between baseball and cricket, Yuvraj said, “Every time I meet an American, they ask me 'What's cricket?'. I tell them 'It's like baseball, we just don't run in four quarters, we run straight and back'. The cricket swing and the baseball swing are very similar. It's a similar set-up. In baseball, you can swing at everything. In cricket, you keep your bat down because the ball bounces and comes to you. Yeah, at the start, yes. Once you get in, you can start using your power. When you hit it out of the park, it's called a Home Run in baseball, in cricket, it's called a six”,

"I think, in baseball, there is less time -- after three strikes, you are out. In cricket, you have got to think probably quicker. In baseball, you must hit everything straight, in cricket you can hit behind square," he further said.

The tournament opener between Canada and the USA will be held at the Grand Prairie stadium in Dallas on June 1, Saturday.
