T20 World Cup 2026: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to continue the policy of not allowing players to stay with their respective families during the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, as per a report. The policy dictates that players are only allowed to have families with them for as long as 14 days if the away tour lasts for more than 45 days. As per a report by the Indian Express, the BCCI found no reason to change the policy after the current team management's argument asked the body for more clarity.
Notably, the 1-3 series loss against Australia was a cornerstone for the BCCI to implement this policy, as they decided to keep it for the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, hosted jointly by India and Sri Lanka.
If one looks at the schedule, India defeated the USA in its campaign opener against the USA at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai with Suryakumar Yadav being the batting mainstay.
With three more matches to go, two of them are scheduled to take place in India. The only game scheduled for the team outside the country will be against Pakistan at Colombo on February 15.
“The Indian team management had approached the BCCI to ask whether wives and fiancées can travel with the team and whether they can also stay with them. The board has made it clear that families won’t be staying with the players. They can make separate arrangements, though, if they want to,” a BCCI source confirmed, according to the Indian Express.
The report further stated that players will travel throughout the tournament on a chartered private plane.
What led BCCI to enforce a policy like that?

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Indian players have been permitted to have their families accompany them during away tours. However, after the loss to Australia, the support staff reported that some players were absent from internal meetings and planning sessions because they opted to remain with their spouses or children. As a result, the BCCI decided to reevaluate the situation, and in January 2025, it was declared that players would not be permitted to have their families with them for longer than 14 days on tours lasting 45 days or more.
The Suryakumar Yadav-led side will take on Namibia on Thursday, February 12, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
