T20 World Cup: Pakistan's India Match Boycott Threat Looms Large As PCB Refuses To Formally Inform ICC | Report

T20 World Cup: The speculation and drama surrounding the India vs Pakistan match does not seem to stop anytime soon, as the fixture's future still hangs in limbo with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) choosing not to formally notify the International Cricket Council (ICC) of their decision despite Pakistan's government announcing a boycott of the February 15 game.

This move has sparked debate, with the ICC warning of potential long-term implications for Pakistan's cricket ecosystem.

According to a Cricbuzz report, the ICC is yet to call a board meeting to discuss Pakistan's decision to boycott the T20 World Cup match against India. Despite the official announcement made by the Pakistan government, the PCB has not officially informed the ICC of its intention to forfeit the match in Colombo, leaving the situation uncertain.

Following Pakistan's announcement, ICC strongly expressed its views on the issue, stating that it would not entertain the idea of selective participation.

In a statement issued on Sunday night, the ICC said: “While the ICC awaits official communication from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), this position of selective participation is difficult to reconcile with the fundamental premise of a global sporting event where all qualified teams are expected to compete on equal terms per the event schedule."

“ICC tournaments are built on sporting integrity, competitiveness, consistency and fairness, and selective participation undermines the spirit and sanctity of the competitions," the statement further read.

"While the ICC respects the roles of governments in matters of national policy, this decision is not in the interest of the global game or the welfare of fans worldwide, including millions in Pakistan," it read.

"The ICC hopes that the PCB will consider the significant and long-term implications for cricket in its own country as this is likely to impact the global cricket ecosystem, which it is itself a member and beneficiary of," the statement further said.
