New India women’s captain Smriti Mandhana has paid tribute to Harmanpreet Kaur after the veteran stepped down as the team’s captain across all formats.

Harmanpreet ended her decade-long stint as India captain on Tuesday. During her time as leader, she guided the team to several major successes, including the historic ODI World Cup triumph in November 2025 and gold medals at the Asian Games in 2023 and 2026.

Mandhana, who has now taken charge of the team in all three formats, praised Harmanpreet for her contribution and said she hopes they can continue playing together for a long time.

Richa Ghosh Calls It A New Chapter

Wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh shared a picture of herself carrying Harmanpreet on her back and described the change as the beginning of a new phase rather than a goodbye.

“Captaincy may be a chapter that ends today, but the impact of a leader never fades,” Richa wrote.

She also thanked Harmanpreet for her belief, guidance and support during their time together in the Indian team.

“This isn’t goodbye, it’s simply a new chapter. Keep doing what you do best, Harry di,” she added.

Shree Charani Recalls Harmanpreet’s Support

Spinner Shree Charani, who became one of Harmanpreet’s trusted bowling options across formats, also expressed her gratitude towards the former captain.

Charani said Harmanpreet’s leadership and the support she gave to players meant a lot to the team.

“It has been a privilege to be a part of the team under your leadership. I’m truly grateful for all your support, encouragement, and guidance. It means a lot to me,” she wrote.

Renuka Singh Thanks Former Captain

India pacer Renuka Singh Thakur also thanked Harmanpreet for inspiring the players around her.

“Thank you, Harry di. It’s been an honour to share the field with you and learn from you. Thank you for inspiring us and paving the way for many of us,” Renuka wrote.

She also wished Harmanpreet well for the next phase of her career.

Harmanpreet To Continue Playing For India

While Harmanpreet has given up the captaincy, her international career is far from over. She remains part of the Indian team and has been included in both squads for the upcoming Zimbabwe series. Mandhana will begin her full-time captaincy with India’s home T20I and ODI series against Zimbabwe later this month.
