ICC T20I Rankings: Varun Chakravarthy, India's star spinner, rose to the top spot in ICC's T20 International Bowlers' Rankings for the first time in his career, becoming just the third Indian to achieve the position.
Chakravarthy is currently in action for India in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 and has put up impressive performances in their first two matches. He came up with an impressive figure of 1/4 in India’s tournament opener against the United Arab Emirates before producing another impactful effort of 1/24 in the Men in Blue's seven-wicket victory over Pakistan four days later.

"India spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has been rewarded for his consistent form in 2025 by becoming the No. 1-ranked bowler on the latest ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings," the ICC said in a statement. Chakaravarthy is just the third Indian bowler to top the ICC T20I bowling rankings, after Jasprit Bumrah and Ravi Bishnoi.
The 34-year-old has become a mainstay in India's T20I lineup in the last 12 months and has shown his class with a string of strong performances that have helped him overtake New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy at the top of the rankings, the ICC stated.

West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein remained in third position, whereas Australia’s Adam Zampa jumped to fourth spot overall. Having represented India in 20 T20I matches so far, Varun has 35 wickets to his name at an average of 14.54.
On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav, who has been India's best bowler in the Asia Cup 2025 so far, rose a whopping 16 spots to 23rd.
There is a new career-high rating for No. 1-ranked T20I batter Abhishek Sharma following his innings of 31 against Pakistan. England openers Phil Salt (second) and Jos Buttler (third) both gained one spot to keep in touch with Abhishek, while South Africa duo Dewald Brevis (up two places to 11th) and Aiden Markram (up 10 spots to equal 30th) make some ground too.
India have already made it to the Super Fours of the continental tournament and will face Oman in their final group A match on Friday. They are the defending champions and the most successful team in the Asia Cup history with a record eight titles.
