Punjab vs Sikkim, Vijay Hazare Trophy Updates: Shubman Gill, India's Test and ODI captain, will also follow the BCCI's diktat to play in the domestic cricket as he will be playing for Punjab in their Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. Punjab are up against Sikkim in Jaipur on Saturday. Punjab won the toss and opted to bowl first, but Gill was nowhere to be seen in what would've been his first match after getting dropped from India's T20 World Cup 2026 squad.  

In an interesting turn of events, the general public will not be allowed to attend as spectators during the Punjab vs Sikkim match. According to reports, this is due to security concerns and a lack of adequate security arrangements. Apart from Gill, Arshdeep Singh is in action for Punjab in their two group matches in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The right-handed batter Gill has been struggling, and his form has also dipped lately. He recently spent a week in Mohali, focusing on rehabilitation from injury. The 26-year-old is fully fit now and will be looking to capitalise on the opportunities for Punjab. Notably, he sustained the injury during a nets session in Lucknow in the T20I series vs South Africa.


Why Shubman Gill Is Not Playing For Punjab Today Against Sikkim In Vijay Hazare Trophy?

Shubman Gill is not playing for Punjab today in their Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Sikkim, as his name was not seen in the playing team's XI. Explosive Indian batter Abhishek Sharma is the captain of Punjab, but as he is not available for the Sikkim game, the team will be led by Prabhsimran Singh. Interestingly, a few minutes before the match, the Punjab Cricket Association also used Shubman Gill's poster to post about their upcoming match on X. The reason for Gill not playing in today's Vijay Hazare Trophy clash is not clear at the moment.

While India's ODI squad for the New Zealand series is expected to be announced today, it seems that Gill will attend the selection meeting. On the other hand, Gill's picture with Manchester City striker Erling Haaland sparked speculations if the star batter is yet to join Punjab's squad.
