Once again the mighty Australian bowling attack cast its spell over Virat Kohli and the talisman batter was dismissed cheaply on Day 3 of the Brisbane Test at The Gabba.

The ace batter was undone by Josh Hazlewood for a mere three runs and that severely dented the run flow in the innings. His absence saw India left struggling at 22/3 in just 7.3 overs. It only got worse when the rain intervened and the teams were called early for lunch.

India's batting woes reared their heads on Day 3 as Yashasvi Jaiswal edged for a slip off Mitchell Starc for the only four runs. The other setback to the Indian innings came when Shubman Gill fell to the impeccable bowling of Starc.

Kohli walked into the crease with a mammoth task of stabilising the innings with KL Rahul, in what turned out to be a very precarious situation for India. As expected, Kohli chased a wider delivery from Hazlewood, just slipping outside off stump, and inevitably paid the price by edging the ball behind to Alex Carey.

This recurring weakness has drawn brickbats from fans and pundits, questioning Kohli's capacity to rectify the flaw in his batting and come up to speed with the lessons taught by the world's best bowlers.

Hazlewood made a successful delivery with the ball that showed a flaw in Kohli's batting, with a full length on the outside off stump that coaxed India batter into a fatal edge.

The former captain was dismissed as he nicked the ball to the wicketkeeper; this sight was an old one, echoing what has happened throughout the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
