India's star batter Virat Kohli received his ICC ODI Player of the Year award and was also selected for ICC Men's ODI Team of the Year 2023 in New York amid the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA.

ICC took to its official Instagram handle on Sunday morning to post a video of Virat being given his trophy and cap, in acknowledgement of a memorable 2023 he had with the bat.

Kohli looked at his very best in 2023 after a long run of inconsistency for big scores and went on to smash 1377 ODI runs at an average of 72.47 and a strike rate of 99.13, with six centuries and eight fifties in 24 innings. His best score was 166*.

He played a crucial role in helping India clinch their eighth Asia Cup title in 2023, scoring an unbeaten 122* in 94 balls against arch-rivals Pakistan in an all-important Super Four stage game.

The 35-year-old Kohli went on to light up the ODI World Cup 2023 at home as he smashed and created multiple records. He ended up being the top run-getter with 765 runs to his name in 11 matches at an average of 95.62 with the help of three centuries, six half-centuries and the best score of 117.

The talismanic batter created the world record for scoring the most runs in a single World Cup edition, breaking Sachin Tendulkar's record of 673 runs back in the 2003 WC. He also outdid Sachin's record of 49 ODI tons, scoring his 50th ODI ton against New Zealand in the semifinals.

Kohli will next be in action for India in the T20 World Cup 2024 which kicks off on June 2. The Men in Blue will start their campaign with the match against Ireland on June 5.

He was seen at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York where India took on Bangladesh in their only warm-up match in the marquee tournament but was rested for the game.

India went on to win the match by 60 runs.

Kohli has headed into the T20 WC on the back of a successful IPL 2024 with the bat, having smashed 41 runs in 15 matches at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of over 154, with a century and five fifties. His best score of 113*.

The former Indian skipper is the leading run-scorer in T20 World Cup history with 1141 runs to his name in 25 innings he has played across five editions at an average of 81.5 and strike rate of 131.3.

He is also the only player to be adjudged as the Player of the Tournament twice in the T20 World Cup history, achieving the feat in the 2014 and 2016 editions.
