Indian batting mainstays in ODIs, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, are undeniably in the twilight of their respective careers. With retirements from Tests and T20Is, their presence in the international side has been restricted to One-day Cricket. However, former India Cricketer Manoj Tiwary has suggested that the upcoming series against India is likely to be their final assignment in international cricket. Tiwari was blunt in his assessment as he stated that both star Cricketers may just rest their boots amidst indifferent treatment as claimed by the former Cricketer from Bengal.

Rohit Sharma was recently released from his duties as ODI captain before the Australia series. Test captain Shubman Gill was appointed as the new captain in the format. However, there is a widespread debate on whether both these Cricketers will play the 2027 World Cup or not.

The Chairman of the Senior Men's Team, Ajit Agarkar, has stated that both Rohit and Virat are non-committal for the 2027 World Cup.

Manoj Tiwary, in an interview with CricTracker, said, “Considering the contributions Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have made to Indian cricket, being treated like this is extremely insulting. I genuinely feel both of them may announce their retirement soon, possibly after the Australia series. When someone is appointed captain, the goal is to win matches and series. Rohit Sharma was already delivering consistent results, and the team was performing well, so why was this change necessary?"

Notably, Rohit has captained India in 56 ODIs, in which 42 have been victories.

Tiwari also gave his two cents on Virat Kohli’s retirement from Test cricket.

According to Manoj Tiwari, “When a player, regardless of his stature, feels that the team does not need him or that he is not respected, a person with self-respect and dignity cannot move forward. This is why Virat Kohli quietly stepped away from Test cricket—not out of frustration, but out of self-respect."
