Virat Kohli Test Retirement: Just days after the shocking news of India captain Rohit Sharma's Test retirement, the news of one of the world's premier Test batters, Virat Kohli reportedly informing the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his willingness to close the red-ball chapter of his career has left cricket fans across the country shocked and emotional.

According to the reports in various media outlets, the 36-year-old batter has voiced his desire to retire from the longest format of cricket to the cricket governing body ahead of the big five-match series in England starting June 20.

The timing of this news could not get more dramatic for the cricket fans as on May 7, India captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the Tests with immediate effect. Both veteran players have already called time on their T20I careers after India's triumphant T20 World Cup 2024 campaign.

Now, with Kohli likely to follow Rohit's footsteps, Indian cricket faces an uphill task of transition, which few were ready for.

According to reports, a senior BCCI official has urged Kohli to reconsider his decision as the selection for the upcoming England tour is looming large.

Kohli, who is regarded as the face of India's red-ball resurgence, once carried the torch for the format globally, and this reported news has stirred strong reactions from fans across social media.

The Indian batting maestro, who has been the fulcrum of his team's batting lineup, has had a tough run this season, just like Rohit Sharma.

In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, he scored just 186 runs in five Tests however, he smashed a century in the opening match in Perth, delivering a glimpse of his vintage self, but his form faded soon after that. 

In the glorious career that has spanned 14 years, he scored 8,895 runs in 105 matches, including 27 centuries, which speaks volumes even in his slump form.
