Virat Kohli has created a huge buzz ahead of the ODI series against Australia with a cryptic social media post. India and Australia will face off in a three-match ODI series, starting on October 19 in Perth. Shubman Gill will be leading the side as India's new ODI captain, having replaced Rohit Sharma for the role.
The series will mark Virat's first appearance for India since the team's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title win. While Virat remains just an ODI player after his retirement from Tests and T20Is, there has been a lot of talk around his future and availability for the ODI World Cup 2027.
With a hint that he could continue to play for India beyond the ODI series down under. "The only time you truly fail is when you decide to give up," Kohli tweeted.

Fans were quick to react to Virat's post with a self-assessment that the message was more of a commitment from Virat to his ODI assignments over anything else. Kohli’s last campaign for the Men in Blue was the Champions Trophy 2025 triumph in the United Arab Emirates. After bashing Pakistan with a hundred in the group stage, Kohli played a vital hand in the semi-final against Australia and emerged as India’s second-highest run-scorer in the tournament.

Virat had a disappointing run of form in Test cricket, and after the disastrous Australia tour, he announced his retirement from the format. "There’s something deeply personal about playing in whites. The quiet grind, the long days, the small moments that no one sees but that stay with you forever. As I step away from this format, it’s not easy — but it feels right. I’ve given it everything I had, and it’s given me back so much more than I could’ve hoped for," Kohli had then written on social media.

Virat Kohli's World Cup Plan Revealed
In a video shared on his Instagram profile, Virat's former India and RCB teammate Dinesh Karthik revealed that the senior batter is keen to play the ODI World Cup 2027, and that is his number one priority at the moment.
With still no clarity from the team management, Karthil revealed that Virat was training rigorously in London during his off-time. He also revealed that Kohli is having two to three cricket practice sessions a week as preparation. "He is keen to play the World Cup. That is number one. In London, he was training during this big layoff that he has had after a long time in his life. I also know he was practising cricket easily 2-3 sessions a week," Karthik revealed.
