Former attacking batter Virender Sehwag has claimed that Indian players will not feature in the foreign T20 leagues saying, 'We are rich people, we don’t go to poor countries'. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not allow Indian players to participate in any T20 franchise league other than the Indian Premier League (IPL). The IPL has emerged as the most lucrative franchise league in the world with astronomical contracts offered to players across the world.
In a discussion with Adam Gilchrist, the former Australia wicketkeeper, for the "Club Prairie Fire" podcast, the flamboyant Indian batter was asked if he thought Indian players will ever compete in other T20 tournaments.
“No! Why? No need. We are rich people, we don’t go to poor countries,” Sehwag responded in the video.

Sehwag also recalled an offer from the Big Bash League during his playing days which he rejected saying that he had spent more money 'last night' than the contract.
“I still remember that when I retired from the Indian team, not retired but dropped and was playing IPL, I received an offer to participate in Big Bash. I said okay how much money are you offering? They said some $100,000. I replied I can spend that much money on my holidays. Even last night’s bill was more than $100,000,” he added.

“Going out for one month playing Big bash or The Hundred, where you get only that $100,000, maybe $200,000. If you talk about millions, yes then I’m interested otherwise no,” the 45-year-old Sehwag quipped.
Sehwag is part of the IPL's official broadcast team. During his eight-season IPL career (2008–2015), Sehwag accumulated 2728 runs at a strike rate of 155.44, including two centuries, and sixteen fifties.
