WI vs PAK: West Indies have revealed a 15-member team for the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan, as the three-match series would be held in Pakistan. West Indies, under the captaincy of Shai Hope, does boast of lots of youngsters, who have played a huge role for the host lately, and their star all-rounder Romario Shepherd would also be making a comeback to the national side.

Shepherd would be playing in this format for the first time after the ODI series against Bangladesh in 2024.

The young wicket-keeper batter Jewel Andrew, who made his debut against Sri Lanka in the 50-over format in 2024, also has returned to the side. Left-arm fast bowler Jediah Blades, who had received his debut cap against Bangladesh last year, too, has been added to the team. Amir Jangoo, who smashed a brilliant hundred during his debut ODI match against Bangladesh, too, has been retained in the team by playing against Ireland earlier this year.

The host would be entering this series on the back of losing a T20I series against the same opponent at their backyard. Darren Sammy, who is the head coach of the team, has reckoned that the upcoming series will help them to strengthen their qualification chances for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

“Pakistan presents a different test and challenge as we continue our push for automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup," Sammy told reporters during the pre-match press conference.

“While qualifying is our immediate goal, maintaining a winning mentality and team cohesion is essential for long-term success. The upcoming matches against teams like Pakistan, who are ranked higher, provide crucial opportunities to earn valuable ranking points to improve our standing ahead of the World Cup," he concluded.

The West Indies are currently lying at the 10th position in the ICC Men's ODI rankings, whereas Pakistan is lying at the fourth position and is behind India, New Zealand, and Australia.
