West Indies vs India: Shubman Gill's toss jinx continued into his maiden Test series as captain at home, as West Indies skipper Roston Chase won the toss, electing to bat first in the series opener despite the overcast conditions at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Gill's anguish in the call of play continued, extending his losing streak in tosses to six, having lost all five in his debut series against England.
The captain's toss defeat in Ahmedabad meant he equalled New Zealand skipper Tom Latham's record of losing six successive tosses at the start of his captaincy term.
Gill also surpassed India legend Kapil Dev's unwanted milestone, who lost all five tosses in his first Test series as captain against West Indies in 1983.
West Indies captain Roston Chase opted to bat first against India in their first Test of the two-match series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Despite losing the toss, Gill remains undeterred, buoyed by India's formidable bowling attack, which boasts the pace of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj and a potent spin trioka comprising Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar.
