IPL 2025: CSK's star all-rounder Sam Curran has reckoned that former Indian wicket-keeper batter MS Dhoni was seen batting at the training session till late night before their tournament opener against Mumbai Indians. CSK will start their campaign at the Chepauk stadium in Chennai on Sunday.
Before the high-octane clash, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side was seen gearing up for their first match by attending a training session in their backyard. Sam Curran, who returned to the Chennai-based franchise after almost two years, has said that Dhoni was working on his batting prowess till late at night.
“The other night I was batting with MS and Jadeja (Ravindra Jadeja) at 11:30 in the evening. I was thinking, where in the world would you do this? The lights were on, and we were just smacking balls everywhere,” Sam Curran was quoted as saying on Sky Sports.

At the same time, Curran, who had played for CSK during IPL 2020 and 2021, talked about Dhoni's presence and how the local players just come to the stadium and watch him play.
“You have all the local players around the group, and they just sit there and watch MS. It is just the aura of the guy. He is so easy to chat with, and I think his calmness, I guess the big moments he’s been involved in. But he never seems to panic,” he said.
Dhoni, who has been inching closer towards the fag end of his IPL career, has been participating in this cash-rich league even though he has sustained injuries in the last few years. Speculations were rife around his retirement and he was also seen wearing a shirt with 'one final time' written on it when he reached Chennai for IPL 2025.
He revealed during an interview that he would retire happily once he has played his last match in Chennai. He will aim to bounce back during the upcoming season and he was also retained by the Chennai-based franchise, who used the uncapped player rule, where players who haven't played international cricket for five years would be considered as uncapped. His fans are hopeful that even if he retires from IPL after this season, then he will at least get a well-deserved farewell.
