Ranji Trophy 2025: The Ranji Trophy has brought out some brilliant moments in the last few years and Umar Nazir Mir's brilliant spell against Mumbai is the latest to join that elite club. Hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, the 6’4” rattled Mumbai's formidable batting lineup and left them tottering at 41/5.
Some big players like Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Hardik Tamore, and Shivam Dube fell flat to his brilliant bowling.
Who Is J&K Pacer Umar Nazir Mir?
Umar Nazir Mir comes from Malikpora district in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama. With his brilliant bowling action, he has given the batters in domestic cricket a hard time. He wants to play for the Indian team. And with these figures, he has solidified his case.
He has been working hard in domestic cricket for a long time. His journey hasn't been easy but is quite talented. He does have the ability to swing the ball in both ways and he always bowls at perfect length.
Umar’s Domestic Cricket Numbers Speak Volumes
He isn't just a one-match wonder. He has been performing brilliantly in domestic cricket. After playing in 57 first-class matches, he has taken 138 wickets at an average of 29.12. He registered his career-best figures of 6/53 in the Ranji Trophy clash against Services. He has also performed brilliantly in List A and T20 cricket under extreme pressure.
This time he is in sublime form as he has taken 11 wickets after playing in three Ranji matches at a staggering average of 9.81. He bowled at an economy rate of 2.64 and a strike rate of 22.27 and that proves how good he is. During the clash against Mumbai, he rattled their batting lineup.
Playing against Mumbai is never easy but Umar had other plans. He first dismissed India skipper Rohit Sharma, who had scored just three runs. Rohit was seen struggling at the crease and had a hard time facing Umar.
It was Mumbai skipper Ajinkya Rahane who came in to bat next and he too fell against Umar. Umar then had taken four wickets and thus ran riot at their batting lineup.
Umar hasn't got an IPL contract yet. Even though he did enter his name at multiple IPL auctions but hasn't been picked by a team. Especially, when IPL are looking for bowlers who can perform brilliantly under pressure situations.
