WI vs AUS T20I: Josh Inglis' rampage 78 and Cameron Green's blistering 52 powered Australia to a comprehensive eight-wicket win over the West Indies at Sabina Park, Kingston, crashing Andre Russell's farewell party.
In a fitting farewell flourish, Russell blasted 36 off just 15 balls; however, his fireworks were overshadowed by Inglis and Green, who stitched up an unbeaten 131-run partnership, helping Australia chase 173 with almost five overs to spare.
In chase, Australia started with a surprise as Glenn Maxwell (12) came out to open the innings with skipper Mitchell Marsh (21), but the ploy did not pay off, as the openers departed inside six overs.
However, Inglis then handled the carnage charge as he smashed five sixes in an unbeaten 33-ball blitz, while Green scored his successive fifty of the series.
Earlier, in a touching tribute, both teams presented Andre Russell with a guard of honour before the match began as the veteran all-rounder took to the field for the last time.
Batting first, West Indies put up a formidable total of 172/8, courtesy of openers Brandon King and Shai Hope's 63-run partnership in just eight overs to lay the foundation for a competitive score.
Andre Russell Expresses Gratitude
After the match, Russell extended his gratitude to the home crowd and the West Indies Cricket Board for their backing throughout his career.
"I just want to say thanks, thanks to the people in the Sabina Park and to the WICB for the opportunity. Just happy to play in front of the home crowd. The result didn't go our way, but I'm just happy to have played so many matches and wish the team the best going forward. The result didn't go our way (today). Thanks for all the support, I really appreciate it the most," Russell said in a post-match presentation.
"I remember the two World Cups we won, the flags going high, but at the end of the day - I think it was time to move ahead. We have a good bunch of guys (in the team), Shephard is throwing some punches and there are the likes of Rutherford, Alzarri and Holder as well. Amazing to finish my career at Sabina Park. The result didn't go our way, but that's the game of cricket. You've supported us a lot and do keep supporting us going ahead," he added.
