The two-time World Cup winner and current head coach of the Indian team, Gautam Gambhir, has received a lucrative offer from the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) to join as CEO, mentor, and partner.

According to a report in Dainik Jagran, the Rajasthan Royals are undergoing an ownership transition, and one of the new stakeholders is offering Gambhir a minority equity stake, reportedly 2-3 per cent in the 2008 IPL champions.

“A majority of Rajasthan Royals shareholders are selling their stake to the new owners. The deal is currently in a transferable state. One of the owners in RR’s new management has offered Gambhir a two-to-three per cent stake, in addition to the roles of CEO and mentor,” the report said.

However, Gambhir's hands are tied as long as he remains India's head coach, according to bars individuals from holding dual roles with an IPL franchise and the national team to avoid conflict of interest.

Gambhir's approval of Rajasthan's proposal would necessitate his resignation as India's head coach, but according to many media sources, his commitment is to see out his current tenure, which is set to conclude after the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.

Gambhir's IPL resume is outstanding, with three titles as captain and one as mentor with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and a powerful stint with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), where he guided the team to the playoffs in just two seasons.

The India head coach is presently focused on India's ongoing T20 World Cup title defence, having guided them to the Super 8 round. He's also likely to coach the team at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where cricket returns in T20 format.
