Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul added a historic feat to his name by achieving a massive ODI World Cup record in the final against Australia at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Rahul entered his name into record books by becoming the first Indian No. 5 batter to amass over 400 runs in a single edition of the World Cup on Sunday.
The 31-year-old played 10 innings in the current edition of the tournament and accumulated 452 runs with an impressive strike rate of 90.76 and an average of 75.33. Rahul secured one century and two fifties in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
In the 41.3 overs, Mitchell Starc claimed a crucial wicket by dismissing Rahul for 66 runs off 107 balls. Starc delivered a length ball, inducing an outside edge from the wicketkeeper-batter and Josh Inglis made no mistake in taking the catch behind the wickets.
Rahul made his debut in the 50-over format in 2016 and has since then played 68 innings, amassing 2,743 runs with a strike rate of 88.14.
Apart from Rahul, Virat Kohli's 54 and Rohit Sharma's 47 off 31 balls powered India to 240 in 50 overs after being invited to bat first by Australia skipper Pat Cummins in the summit clash.
The 'Men in Blue' aim to secure their third World Cup title, while Australia are vying for their sixth trophy.
