Women’s World Cup: Harmanpreet Kaur-led India women’s team have been docked five per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate during their ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 match against Australia.

India's high-scoring battle concluded in heartbreak as Australia pulled off a stunning heist, chasing down the target of 331 runs with three wickets to spare in Visakhapatnam. After two back-to-back defeats, India's focus shifts to its next challenge - a must-win showdown against England in Indore.

"Michell Periera of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction as India were ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration," the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Wednesday in an official statement.

As per the ICC's regulations, Article 2.22 mandates a penalty of 5 per cent of the match fee for every over a team falls short of bowling within the assigned time, directly impacting players' match payments.

"In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time," the statement further read.

The ICC said India captain Harmanpreet Kaur pleaded guilty to the offence while taking the sanction and there was no need for a formal hearing.

India's thrashing against Australia was compounded by a technicality, with the team found to be one over short of the target after accounting for time allowances.

"On-field umpires Sue Redfern and Nimali Perera, third umpire Kim Cotton and fourth umpire Jacqueline Williams levelled the charge," the ICC said.
