WTC Points Table, NZ vs WI 2nd Test Result: New Zealand defeated the West Indies by 9 wickets in the second Test at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on Friday. Kane Williamson smashed the winning boundary as the Blackcaps chased down the 56-run target and wrapped things up in four days to go 1-0 up in the three-match series.
The hosts lost just one wicket in their run chase as Tom Latham (9) was dismissed by Anderson Phillip. Devon Conway (28) and Williamson (16) remained unbeaten and stitched a 31-run stand for the second wicket. The victory helped New Zealand get 12 valuable World Test Championship points and allowed the 2021 winners to jump in front of Pakistan and India and join Sri Lanka in third place on the standings.

They now have a win-loss percentage of 66.67 per cent, with first-placed Australia (100 per cent) and second-placed South Africa (75 per cent) the only teams in front of them. Talking about the Wellington Test, Jacob Duffy took 5/38 as New Zealand's weakened attack bowled out the West Indies for 128 on the third day. This was Duffy's second five-wicket haul of the series as the visitors were left with an overall lead of only 55 after trailing by 73 runs in the first innings.

Pacer Michael Rae and wicketkeeper-batter Mitch Hay also made major contributions after being called up to make their test debuts in an injury-hit team. Hay scored a match-high 61 as New Zealand made 278 in their first innings in reply to the West Indies' 205. Rae took 3-66 in the first innings and 3-45 in the second, match figures of 6-106.
"I guess to lose (Tickner) like that . . . he bowled great in the first innings, and I thought the way the guys bowled today was awesome," Duffy said. "I thought it was a great team performance, and we got the job done. Day three, how good?"
Australia remain at the top of the WTC standings with five out of five wins. They were followed by South Africa, who recently whitewashed India away from home, winning the series 2-0. The 2023 champions have three victories in four matches so far. Having seen disappointing results lately, India are placed sixth, just behind arch-rivals Pakistan, whereas England (7th), Bangladesh (8th) and the West Indies complete the points table.
