IND vs BAN: Yash Dayal has given credit to his learning experience after that horrific over against Rinku Singh in IPL 2023, which proved to be an important moment as that helped him to receive his maiden India Test call-up. Dayal is part of the 16-member team for the series opener against Bangladesh, which will be held from Thursday at the M.A. Chidambaram stadium. Talking about his career, Dayal reckoned that five sixes which Rinku had smashed to him when he represented GT played a key role in building his mental and professional resilience.
During an interaction with ESPNcricinfo, Dayal recalled how that time when he leaked those runs was still afresh in his mind and that it never broke him and instead taught him how to deal with these situations better. Irrespective of his watching his team lose that match, that experience helped him to become stronger mentally both as a human and a cricketer.
"There was this panic inside me. I was also thinking: Why do I have to always bowl the main overs? Now I understand that I bowl the main overs because the team needs me. I am the main guy who can win the match...To be honest, even today it plays in the back of my mind frequently. Earlier I would be scared, but now I enjoy confronting any situation," Dayal was quoted as saying on ESPNcricinfo.

He also talked about the emotions he and his family experienced after they learned about him receiving his maiden India Test call-up. He admitted that the journey was quite challenging but his family was ecstatic.
"When I got a message from a friend saying I'd been selected in India's Test squad. I didn't believe him, but a little later I saw my name in the Test squad on BCCI's website...Immediately I kept my phones aside to try to process what was happening inside me emotionally," he revealed.
"I had become too emotional because getting a Test call-up is very big. I started recalling my journey over the years. I then called my family: my mother and my sister were equally emotional, tears of joy were rolling down their faces," he added.
He had a dream debut in IPL as he took 11 wickets after playing in nine matches while playing for GT in their triumphant maiden season in 2022. But he slipped into depression after his team suffered a heartbreaking loss to KKR on the back of Rinku Singh's assault in IPL last year and it's the issue that he has talked about quite frankly in multiple interviews. But he bounced back in IPL this year, where he played for RCB and took 15 wickets after playing in 14 matches. He also played a huge role in helping them qualify for the playoffs.
The youngster hailing from UP also had a successful stint in domestic cricket. He registered figures of 4/89 in the two innings and helped India B beat India A by 76 runs in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024. He has taken 76 wickets in his first-class career after playing in 24 matches at an average of 28.89, including a five-for under his kitty.
