Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has said the team management must find the right balance between experienced players and youngsters. He also believes that if Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are not part of India’s plans for next year’s ODI World Cup, the selectors should tell them now, even if it is a difficult conversation.
Earlier this week, several reports claimed that Rohit could be playing his final international match for India at Lord’s. The reports also suggested that the selection committee was not considering him for the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be held in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed those reports. Speaking to Star Sports, Yuvraj urged head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar to be clear and honest with both Rohit and Kohli about their future.
“It is up to the management who they want to stick with. Ideally, you need experience in the team. You cannot just go with young guys, or you just cannot go with only experience in the team,” Yuvraj said while speaking to Star Sports.
“Whatever your plans are, if you want these guys to go for the World Cup, you tell them now and you secure them now. That is great, you are going to the World Cup, don’t worry about anything,” Yuvraj added.

Since Rohit and Kohli retired from Test cricket, there has been constant discussion about how long they will continue playing ODIs. Last year too, reports suggested that both players could retire after the Australia series, but that did not happen.
“Or if you feel that someone isn’t fitting, tell them, it is going to look bad, it is going to be a hard call, but eventually the guy will appreciate that you said it on his face,” Yuvraj said.
Yuvraj also said that Rohit and Kohli have given a lot to Indian cricket over the years and deserve to be treated with respect, whatever decision is taken about their future.
