England’s Joe Root created two remarkable records during the third ODI against India at the iconic Lord’s Stadium in the three-match series decider.
Root scored his third successive half-century of the series and remained unbeaten once again, taking his tally to 249 runs without being dismissed. That is now the highest score by any batter in a bilateral ODI series without losing their wicket, making it a world record.
The experienced right-hander also achieved another major milestone. His 40-ball fifty was his sixth straight 50-plus score in ODI cricket, making him the first England batter to reach that feat.

Across the history of ODI cricket, only 13 players have managed six or more consecutive scores of 50 or above. Interestingly, Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar never went beyond five consecutive 50-plus scores in the format, a streak he achieved in 1994.
There have been 41 instances of batters registering five or more successive 50-plus scores in ODIs. Those streaks belong to 36 different players, with Virat Kohli leading the way after achieving the feat five separate times. Root himself had previously recorded a five-match streak in 2016, but his latest run has now taken him to a new personal and national record.
