The Delhi Metro network is set to receive a major boost. The Delhi Aerocity Metro station, located on the Airport Express Line, will be developed into a triple interchange hub. According to the DMRC, interchange facilities will be provided at Delhi Aerocity for the NCRTC's (National Capital Region Transport Corporation) proposed Alwar corridor. This will enable seamless connectivity between the Delhi Metro, the Airport Express Line, and the RRTS.
Direct Platform Connection Between Airport Express And Golden Line
The new Delhi Aerocity Metro station will feature platform-to-platform and concourse-to-concourse pedestrian connectivity between the Airport Express Line and the Golden Line. This station will be built at a depth of approximately 22 metres, providing passengers with a fast and easy transit facility.
The new station on the Golden Line will be approximately 290 metres long to meet all the requirements of the interchange. Interchange stations are typically around 260 metres long, but its size has been increased keeping the additional connectivity in mind. The corridors will cross each other almost diagonally. The necessary structural provisions for the future construction of the NCRTC platform will be included during the station's construction.
Improved Connectivity Between South Delhi And IGI Airport
This new interchange facility will bring significant relief to passengers from several areas of South Delhi, such as Tughlakabad, Ambedkar Nagar and Khanpur. Through the Aerocity-Tughlakabad Metro corridor, passengers will now be able to reach all terminals of the Indira Gandhi International Airport quickly and easily.
Following the approval for the extension of the Magenta Line to IGI Airport Terminal-1, direct metro connectivity to Terminal-1 will be available via the Golden Line. Passengers travelling from Terminal-1D will also be able to reach Aerocity via the Golden Line from the Terminal-1 IGI Airport station and then use the Airport Express Line.
Expansion Project Under Delhi Metro Phase-4
This extension of the Delhi Aerocity station is part of the Tughlakabad-Aerocity Golden Line corridor, currently under construction as part of Delhi Metro Phase-4. A 2.263-kilometre extension of this corridor from Aerocity to the IGI Airport Terminal-1 station was also recently approved.
