The Delhi government has announced a major road redevelopment initiative, targeting 402 kilometres across the capital, with funding provided jointly by the central and state governments. The Public Works Department (PWD) has been entrusted with executing the project, which aims to upgrade both major corridors and neighbourhood roads.

Under the plan, 300.9 km of roads will be funded through the Central Road Fund (CRF), while the state government will cover the remaining 100.9 km. A dual funding model has been adopted to ensure high-quality construction and timely completion.

Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma stated that the BJP government’s goal is to provide world-class roads with transparency, speed, and zero tolerance for corruption. “Delhi deserves world-class roads. This is not just about construction; it is about delivering high-standard momentum with accountability at every level,” he said.

Major CRF-funded routes include the Eastern Approach Road in Wazirabad (3.56 km), Road No. 68 in North-East Delhi (2.20 km), Old GT Road (0.79 km), Road No. 59 near Loni Border (1.10 km), Narela-Alipur Road (1.80 km), Bhajanpura-Yamuna Vihar Road (1.25 km), Seelampur-Shastri Park Corridor (1.05 km), and sections of Karawal Nagar Road (2.50 km). Tenders for several of these routes have already been issued, with a target completion timeline of February-March.

State-funded projects will focus on primary and mohalla roads, including Bipin Chandra Pal Marg to CR Park (0.37 km), Kali Mandir Road (0.38 km), Surajkund Road (0.63 km), Press Enclave Road (1.14 km), Sheikh Sarai-Panchsheel Marg (1.22 km), Khel Gaon Marg (1.30 km), Mandir Marg-Karol Bagh (0.95 km), New Friends Colony Link Road (1.05 km), and Rajokri-NH48 Service Lane Corridor (2.30 km).

Verma added that every project will be monitored through zonal oversight and real-time field inspections to ensure compliance with high-quality standards. The PWD also plans to enhance drainage systems, footpaths, and road safety measures to improve durability and prevent waterlogging, especially during the monsoon.

“This 402 km mission is a matter of trust. There will be no delays, no excuses, and no compromise on standards,” the minister said, emphasising that the public should expect a “visible and comprehensive change” by next March. The initiative forms part of the government’s broader plan to create a clean, connected, and future-ready Delhi.
