Delhi Car Blast: After an explosion struck a slow-moving Hyundai i20 near the Red Fort on Monday evening, several accounts of remarkable bravery have emerged. Despite suffering serious injuries, some of the victims managed to drive themselves to nearby hospitals, showcasing courage and presence of mind amid the chaos.

The Delhi blast claimed 12 lives, injuring several others. Investigation is still underway to determine the cause of the explosion.The national capital has been placed on high alert with strict vigil being maintained at the airports, railway stations and bus terminals.

Avdhesh Mandal’s Case

40-year-old autorickshaw driver Avdhesh Mandal was severely injured after the blast with a piece of metal lodged in his abdomen and his shirt covered in blood.

Mandal did not wait for help but got into his auto and reached Sushruta Medical Centre, which was over 4 km away, as per a Hindustan Times report.

Mandal hails from Bihar and was staying at a rented accommodation with close friends in south Delhi’s Nehru Nagar. Mandal’s friends immediately reached the hospital when they became aware of the blast.

Mohammad Safwan’s Case

28-year-old Mohammad Safwan from Chennai was travelling from the transport office to Kashmere Gate when the explosion rocked the area. Safwan was on a short work visit to Delhi. As per the HT report, the blast was so strong that the impact threw him off the rickshaw he was travelling in.
