GRAP-3 In Delhi: Authorities implemented Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) on Tuesday morning as hazardous smog shrouded Delhi amid worsening air pollution.

On Tuesday, Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded in the 'severe' category for the first time this season, rising to 425 (9 am), as per data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)’s Sameer app. On Monday, the overall AQI stood at 362.

An AQI between 51 and 100 is classified as 'satisfactory, 101 to 200 as 'moderate', 201 to 300 as 'poor', 301 to 400 as 'very poor', and above 400 as 'severe'.

At 7 am, 34 of the city’s 39 active stations recorded 'severe' AQI levels, as per CPCB’s data. Bawana stood at 462 AQI, Wazirpur 460, and both Mundka and Punjabi Bagh at 452.

Key Measures Under GRAP Stage-3

- Non-essential construction work would be banned in the national capital.

- Classes up to Grade 5 could shift to hybrid learning, allowing parents to choose online education during severe pollution episodes.

- The use of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel vehicles would be restricted in the national capital and surrounding areas.

The GRAP restrictions are implemented in four stages based on the real-time AQI readings: Stage I for Poor AQI, Stage II for Very Poor AQI, Stage III for Severe AQI, and Stage IV for Severe Plus AQI.
