Delhi's Yamunapar area has become a new target for gangsters from Punjab who are trying to establish their control there. Over the last eight months, these gangs have been behind five major crimes. After a victim files a police complaint, the criminals will return from Punjab a few days later and open fire at the victim's house just to spread fear in the area.
While Delhi Police has been successful in arresting the criminals involved in these incidents, they have failed to break up the larger network that helps these gangsters operate so openly. These incidents often reveal a deep connection between the gangsters and betting operators (bookies) based in Dubai, although this link rarely makes it into official police records.
The Dubai Connection and Online Betting
According to police sources, many bookies from Yamunapar are running their illegal betting business in India using an app while living in Dubai. At the same time, notorious criminals from Punjab have also set up bases in Dubai and other countries.
These gangsters specifically target people in Yamunapar who are secretly involved in the online betting world. This makes them easy targets for extortion (demanding "protection money"). So far, gangs like the Bhullar gang have carried out attacks in areas like Mandawali, Kalyanpuri, Anand Vihar, and Jagatpuri.
Fearless Attacks, Even After Police Complaints
The Jagatpuri Case: In March 2025, gangsters demanded Rs 4 crore from a major bookie in Jagatpuri. When he refused to pay, they first shot at his car. After he filed a case with the police, the gangsters found out, returned from Punjab in April, and fired multiple rounds at his house.
The Anand Vihar Case: Also in March 2025, gangsters demanded ₹5 crore from a medical equipment manufacturer in Anand Vihar. A few days after a police case was filed, the criminals came back and fired shots outside the businessman's house to create panic.
The Jaipal Bhullar gang was behind both of these attacks. Bhullar was killed in a shootout with Punjab Police in 2021. The gang is now led by Arshdeep Singh Gill, also known as Arsh Dalla, who lives abroad and also heads the Khalistan Tiger Force, a separatist group. Police have arrested three members of the Bhullar gang in connection with these two extortion cases.
