Delhi Demolition Drive: Delhi Police have arrested a 12th accused, identified as 36-year-old Mohammad Imran, in the Turkman Gate stone-pelting case, prompting heightened security arrangements in the area ahead of Friday prayers. Authorities said the situation remains peaceful, with senior officers monitoring ground operations, while police have also reached out to local community leaders and appealed to residents to refrain from spreading or acting on rumours or provocative messages.

Delhi Demolition Drive: Top Updates

  • Around 2,500 square feet of land has been reclaimed near the mosque's main gate as part of an ongoing PWD clearance project. According to MCD records, the total area identified for clearance spans 39,000 square feet, leaving a significant portion of the task yet to be completed.

  • According to officials, a significant volume of rubble still occupies the area. Once the area is fully excavated, a formal land survey will be conducted to establish the new perimeter. 

  • Following the measurements, a boundary wall will be built to officially integrate the reclaimed space into the Ramlila Ground.

  • So far, 250 truckloads of waste have been cleared, with an additional 100 truckloads presently being removed from the site.

  • Additional Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan confirmed the arrest of 36-year-old Mohd Imran, noting that the investigation is ongoing. He added that a heightened security presence will be maintained in the locality as a precautionary measure.

  • Earlier, on Thursday, the Delhi Police took six more people, Afaan, Adil, Shahnawaz, Hamza, Atharr and Ubed under arrest in connection with the stone pelting incident in Turkman Gate, taking the total to 11.

    • The police have also identified at least 10 social media influencers for spreading rumours about the encroached area near Faiz-e-Elahi Masjid.

    • Authorities have launched a crackdown on several WhatsApp groups suspected of spreading deceptive audio clips.

    • As part of the probe, the police summoned Samajwadi Party leader Mohibbullah Nadvi for questioning, citing his alleged presence at the scene.
