In a bid to improve connectivity between Dhaula Kuan and the Delhi Airport, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has started work to widen the carriageway on the left-hand side (towards Gurugram) of the Dhaula Kuan Road from two lanes to four lanes near the Subroto Park Air Force Station in New Delhi.

The project aims to remove the traffic congestion on the left side of the road, which starts from the Parade Road, where traffic movement is currently restricted towards Gurugram from Delhi. Currently, the road narrows down near the Subroto Park into two lanes due to the presence of a metro pillar at the edge of the carriageway.

To create space for road widening, relocation of the drain, peripheral road, and building of the Air Force Station is being done. The project is expected to be completed in about six months.

Additionally, a new Foot Over Bridge (FOB) will be constructed near the Subroto Park Air Force Station at the start of the RTR flyover, to enhance safety and provide better connectivity to pedestrians.

The project will also aim to build an enhanced drainage system to dispose off rain/surface water efficiently. The initiative also focuses on environmental sustainability, with plans for tree transplantation as well as deployment of anti-smoke guns and water sprinklers to minimize pollution during construction. During the construction phase, traffic marshals, tow-away cranes and safety cones will be deployed by the NHAI near the project site to manage the traffic movement on the National Highway.

After completion, the widened stretch is expected to bring significant improvement to the infrastructure and transportation network in the National Capital Region as well as enhance the connectivity between Delhi and Gurugram, cutting travel time by 20 to 30 minutes.
