In a bid towards promoting cleaner and sustainable transportation solutions, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is planning to install electric vehicle charging stations for commercial use at major bus depots across the city. The initiative is aimed at supporting electric buses and trucks while strengthening Delhi’s EV infrastructure.
As part of this effort, charging facilities will be developed at depots in Okhla, Narela and Dwarka, with the project involving government-approved contractors. The move aligns with Delhi’s broader goal of reducing vehicular emissions, promoting electric mobility, and preparing public transport systems for a large-scale shift to electric commercial vehicles.

The project includes the installation and commissioning of a 1,600 kVA compact substation to provide power to a 240 kW electric vehicle charger capable of serving commercial vehicles such as buses and trucks. The initiative aligns with the Delhi government’s plan to transition the entire public bus fleet to electric vehicles, a key step toward reducing emissions and improving air quality.

According to a transport department official, quoted by Jagran.com, the work started in November last year at nine DTC bus stops in Rohini Sector 37. These are:
- Keshoppur
- Nangloi
- Kalkaji
- Sukhdev Vihar
- Nand Nagri
- Ghazipur
- Hasanpur
Government Introduces Smart Card On DTC Buses For Female Travellers
The government is preparing to end the pink ticket system and implement the ‘Pink Saheli Smart Card’. Under this new arrangement, women will be required to use a smart card for free travel on DTC and cluster buses from 2026.
The scheme aims to fully digitise the system and prevent its misuse. Smart cards will now replace the paper pink tickets in the free bus travel scheme for women, which has been in place since 2019.
An Aadhaar card with a Delhi address will be required to obtain a Pink Saheli card. The card will be mandatory for girls and women aged 12 and over. The card will store information related to the passenger's identity to ensure the proper implementation of the free travel scheme.
