In a special Diwali initiative, the Delhi government will transfer financial assistance under the ‘Laadli Yojana’ to around 40,000 beneficiaries on October 1. The transfer will be executed with a single click at an event at Talkatora Stadium, in the presence of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
This step is part of the ongoing Seva Pakhwada (service fortnight) commemorating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. Earlier this year, the Women and Child Development Department conducted a district-wise campaign to identify eligible beneficiaries of the scheme.

Laadli Yojana, launched on January 1, 2008, aims to empower girls born in Delhi by providing financial assistance in the form of term deposits. Under the scheme, families receive Rs 11,000 for hospital births and Rs 10,000 for home births. Additional financial aid of Rs 5,000 is provided upon the child’s admission to classes 1, 2, 6, 9, and 10.
The scheme is available only to girls born in Delhi whose parents’ annual income does not exceed Rs 1 lakh. The girls must have resided in Delhi for at least three years, be enrolled in schools recognised by the Delhi government, MCD, or NDMC, and the assistance is limited to two daughters per family.
Deposits are held with SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd. and released in stages as the child progresses in education. The maturity amount, including interest, can be accessed after the girl completes class 10 or turns 18, and can be used for higher education, vocational training, or setting up a micro-enterprise.
