Delhi MCD Bypolls: The State Election Commission is set to issue the official nomination notification today for by-elections in 12 wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
According to the Commission, the nomination process will begin on November 3, with the last date for filing nominations being November 10. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on November 12, and candidates can withdraw their names until November 15. Polling is scheduled for November 30 from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm without any break.
Nominations can be submitted to the respective returning officers between 11 am and 3 pm. With the issuance of the official notification, the nomination process for the MCD bypolls will officially begin.
As per Jagran.com, the Commission stated that candidates from the general category must deposit a security amount of Rs 5,000, while Scheduled Caste candidates are required to deposit Rs 2,500. Only two persons may accompany a candidate during nomination filing. The election expenditure limit has been capped at Rs 8 lakh per candidate.
The by-elections are being held to fill 12 vacant MCD seats, six general and six reserved for women. Results will be declared on December 3.
The bypolls will be held in Mundka, Shalimar Bagh-B, Ashok Vihar, Chandni Chowk, Chandni Mahal, Dwarka-B, Dichaon Kalan, Naraina, Sangam Vihar-A, Dakshin Puri, Greater Kailash, and Vinod Nagar wards.
Eleven of the 12 seats fell vacant after sitting councillors from the BJP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) contested and won seats in the Delhi Assembly poll held in February, including Shalimar Bagh-B, which was earlier represented by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

11 of the 12 seats became vacant after councillors from the BJP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) contested and won in the Delhi Assembly elections held in February. Notably, Shalimar Bagh-B was earlier represented by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. BJP councillor Kamaljeet Sehrawat vacated the Dwarka-B seat after winning the West Delhi Lok Sabha seat.
To avoid voter confusion caused by multiple candidates with identical names, the State Election Commission will include candidates’ photographs on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Officials noted that candidates with the same names often appear consecutively on ballots due to alphabetical listing, leading to confusion among voters
