Delhi MCD Bypolls Result 2025: The results of the bypolls held in 12 wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) were announced on Wednesday, December 3. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retained Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s constituency, Shalimar Bagh-B (Ward No. 56), securing a resounding victory after Anita Jain defeated Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Babita Rana by an impressive margin of 10,101 votes.
The sweeping win is considered significant, as the seat was closely watched with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s reputation on the line. The seat had been vacant since Rekha Gupta became the Chief Minister. Previously, the seat was held by a councillor. The BJP has lost two seats. Both of these were BJP-held seats, including Sangam Vihar and Mundka.
The ruling BJP has won seven seats, while the AAP managed three, Congress one and the All India Forward Bloc one. Of the 12 wards where voting was held on November 30, nine were earlier held by the BJP and the remaining by AAP.
The AAP candidate won the Mundka seat by 1,577 votes. Congress won Sangam Vihar Ward 163A, where the BJP candidate came in second. Meanwhile, the BJP bagged the Shalimar Bagh seat, winning by 10,000 votes. The Aam Aadmi Party opened its account by winning the Dakshinpuri seat.
Ten counting centres were set up at Kanjhawala, Pitampura, Bharat Nagar, Civil Lines, Rouse Avenue, Dwarka, Najafgarh, Gole Market, Pushp Vihar and Mandawali. Each centre handled counting for specific wards, with strong room facilities and secure entry and exit protocols, the State Election Commission said in a statement.
