The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) plans to build 12 themed parks across the city to encourage physical activity among children and reduce their growing screen time. Approval has already been granted for three parks, with construction set to begin shortly.

According to MCD officials, the new parks will be located in areas such as Mayapuri, Greater Kailash-2 M Block, and Saket. Each of Delhi’s 12 municipal zones will host one park, featuring themes ranging from The Jungle Book and marine life to peacocks, insects, and octopuses. Previous MCD initiatives, such as the Nandan Van park in Greater Kailash and the dinosaur-themed park at Waste to Wonder, have successfully attracted children with creative designs.

The upcoming parks, costing between Rs 1 crore and Rs 3 crore each, will include swings, slides, balance beams, and tunnels. Work on the Teacher Park in Rohini is in its final stages, while Kalkaji Park near Nehru Place is being developed with an insect-themed design.

Greater Kailash-2 M Block Market will feature a Garuda-themed park, while parks in Saket and Mayapuri will follow The Jungle Book theme. An octopus-themed park is planned for Ajmal Khan Park in Karol Bagh.

Unlike the dinosaur park, which used the ‘waste to art’ concept, the new parks will feature figures made from various materials, including butterflies, spiders, bees, and other creatures. MCD officials emphasised that the primary aim is to provide children with an engaging environment where they can play actively and reduce mobile phone usage during their visits.
