DMRC To Run 40 Additional Trains For Weekdays

In the wake of the rising pollution levels in the city, the DMRC Managing Director, Dr Vikas Kumar, instructed the operations team to run 40 additional trains to provide more passenger capacity on weekdays (Monday-Friday) as part of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP)-II rules. The major objective behind this directive was to encourage people to use public transport more rather than their own personal cars.

Kumar further said that the number of additional trains will be increased to 60 if the Delhi government decides to go ahead with the GRAP-III. The DMRC Managing Director, along with officials from the Civil and Environment departments, also inspected Ashok Vihar and Derawal Nagar along the under-construction Krishna Park Extension-RK Ashram Marg corridor to oversee dust control measures.

The DMRC has taken several steps at its construction sites to ensure that construction activities do not further contribute to the existing high levels of pollution in the National Capital Region.

Regular sprinkling of water at construction sites, washing the wheels of vehicles before they enter the city roads, properly covering all construction materials, and the proper disposal and recycling of all construction and demolition waste are some of the steps taken by the DMRC.

82 anti-smog guns have been installed at the construction sites, with the number set to be increased as per the requirement. The Managing Director also reviewed the functioning of the wheel washing facilities and anti-smog guns and took detailed information on all the arrangements.
