Delhi-NCR Weather: As Delhi continues to grapple with deteriorating air quality, residents have not found any respite from pollution even after Diwali. The city’s air continues to pose serious health risks, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) crossing 200 on Friday. Additionally, the national capital recorded its lowest minimum temperature for October in the past two years. With rainfall across the country, there is confusion about whether it will rain on Chhath Puja.
The IMD has issued warnings of severe weather conditions over the next few days due to a low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal. A western disturbance is expected to form in the Himalayan region on October 27, affecting Delhi-NCR. The weather in Delhi will begin to change on the evening of October 27, with clouds appearing and light drizzle possible. This drizzle is likely to continue until the morning of October 28, bringing pleasant and cool conditions to Delhi-NCR just before Chhath Puja.
During Chhath Puja, clouds are expected to persist, which may cause delays or longer waiting times for people wishing to offer prayers to the Sun God. Cloudy weather is also forecast for October 28. Additionally, the Rekha Gupta government has planned artificial rain on October 29. However, rainfall is expected in Delhi-NCR even before the artificial rain, which may lower temperatures and help reduce pollution.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the rain over these two days is likely to make the weather colder. As a result, Delhi-NCR could experience significant weather changes during November or in the first week of the month.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced that Monday, October 27, will be a government holiday in observance of Chhath Puja, according to an official statement from her office. The Chief Minister stated that the holiday falls on Monday because the third day of the four-day festival is considered the most significant.
Air Quality Drops to 'Poor' Quality
After remaining in the “very poor” category for four consecutive days, Delhi’s air quality showed a slight improvement on Friday, shifting to the “poor” category. The AQI levels across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) varied, with several areas still falling under the “very poor” category despite the implementation of Stage II of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this marginal relief may last only a day or two. On Friday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 17 degrees C - 0.2 degrees C below normal and the lowest so far this season.

| Delhi | 30/16 | 210 |

| Ghaziabad | 31/16 | 242 |

Heavy Rainfall Expected in Southern and Eastern States
Due to the developing cyclone, coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days. The IMD has issued a red alert for several districts across these states.
The IMD has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, as well as the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh from October 25, and the Odisha coast from October 26 onward, due to rough sea conditions associated with the approaching cyclone.
Coldest Morning of October
Data indicates that this is Delhi’s lowest October temperature in the past two years. In October 2024, the minimum temperature was 17.4 degrees C on the 15th. On Friday, the maximum temperature stood at 32.3 degrees C, 0.5 degrees C above normal, while humidity levels fluctuated between 96 per cent and 39 per cent. Pusa emerged as the coldest locality, recording a minimum of 16.0 degrees C and a maximum of 30.4 degrees C.
The IMD has forecast foggy conditions on Saturday morning, though the sky is expected to remain clear during the day. A western disturbance is likely to bring cloud cover by Sunday evening or night, with light rainfall expected on Monday and Tuesday.
