The South-West Delhi District Cyber Police Station has arrested four fraudsters from the Jamtara-Bengal gang for defrauding people by posing as bank officials under the pretext of completing KYC updates. The accused used to commit fraud by tricking people into downloading an APK file, which allowed them to hack their phones. Ten mobile phones, transaction messages, Excel sheets, bank details, an APK file, other evidence and 13 SIM cards have been recovered from the accused, identified as Shiv Kumar Ravidas, Sanjay Ravidas, Dinesh Ravidas and Shubham Kumar Barnwal.
Case Study: Resident Defrauded Of Rs 8.3 Lakh Via WhatsApp
South-West District Deputy Commissioner of Police, Amit Goyal, stated that A Ahmed, a resident of the Sagarpur area, filed a complaint with the police about being defrauded. She stated in the complaint that on December 12, 2025, she received messages on her WhatsApp and was told that her account would be closed if the bank account's KYC was not completed soon. The accused sent the victim an APK file, asking her to click on it and enter her details. Once she clicked the link, her phone was hacked. The accused then used her banking credentials to apply for a loan. The victim stated that she became aware of this on December 15, upon receiving a message, which revealed that the accused had defrauded her of Rs 830,000.
Police Investigation And Raid On Dhanbad Hideout
Based on the victim's complaint, a team led by Inspector Pravesh Kaushik registered a case under the relevant sections and began investigating the matter. A team comprising SI Amit Kumar, Arvind and Head Constable Sanjay gathered bank details, technical surveillance and mobile data, which revealed the accused were active in Dhanbad. When police conducted a raid in Dhanbad, they discovered the accused had set up a hideout in a field, from where three of them—Sanjay Ravidas, Dinesh Ravidas and Shiv Kumar Ravidas were defrauding people. Police apprehended all three red-handed. Following the interrogation of the accused, Shubham was arrested in Hooghly, West Bengal.

Profiles Of The Accused And Modus Operandi
A police official stated that among the accused, Shiv Kumar Ravidas has completed the 12th standard and works as a cameraman. Sanjay Ravidas has completed the 10th standard and previously worked as a labourer. Dinesh Ravidas has also completed the 12th standard and was a labourer. Shubham Kumar Barnwal is a mobile phone repair mechanic.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they posed as Axis Bank officials to persuade people to install a malicious APK file. They would remotely hack the banking credentials and transfer the money from fraudulent loans to mule accounts, later withdrawing the cash through ATMs and POS machines.
