Delhi Air Pollution: Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) remained in the very poor category at 376 on Wednesday at 8 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Data from 40 monitoring stations showed that 14 locations had already crossed an AQI of 401 by 7:05 am, slipping into the severe category. The city’s average AQI for December 3 stood at 376.

On Tuesday, the national capital recorded an average AQI of 390 by 9 pm, a sharp rise from 304 on Monday and 279 on Sunday, signalling a rapid deterioration in air quality.

Delhi-NCR AQI 

Faridabad recorded an AQI of 262, placing it in the ‘poor’ category, while Gurugram registered an even higher 282. Pollution levels were much worse in Indirapuram and Ghaziabad, both touching 428 and falling under the ‘severe’ category. Greater Noida reported an AQI of 326 and Hapur stood at 385, both classified as ‘very poor’. Muzaffarnagar also remained in the ‘poor’ category with an AQI of 258.

Area-Wise AQI In Delhi

Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 405, falling in the severe category, while Alipur stood at 361 and Aya Nagar at 349, both marked very poor. Ashok Vihar (400), Bawana (401) and Chandni Chowk (430) also reported severe pollution levels. Dwarka registered 377, IIT Delhi 350, ITO and Punjabi Bagh 381 each, all in the very poor range. IGI Airport T3 recorded 300, placing it in the poor category. Jahangirpuri (405), Nehru Nagar (427), RK Puram (418), Rohini (418), Vivek Vihar (410) and Wazirpur (402) continued to remain in the severe zone. Meanwhile, Lodhi Road (339), Narela (364), DU North Campus (370), Okhla Phase 2 (395), Patparganj (386), Sonia Vihar (395) and Shadipur (326) stayed in the very poor category.

Delhi Weather

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also warned that a cold wave is likely to set in from Friday, which could trap pollutants closer to the ground and further intensify smog conditions.

Delhi’s temperature has dropped to 7.8 Degree Celsius, with dense fog blanketing the city and parts of western Uttar Pradesh. The IMD has warned that a cold wave could set in by December 5, bringing the minimum temperature down to around 6 Degree Celsius. With no rainfall in the forecast, pollution levels are unlikely to improve. Fog is expected to thicken further from December 6. The maximum temperature is likely to hover near 24 Degree Celsius, while the minimum may stay close to 8 Degree Celsius.

AQI Chart With Health Impacts 

0-50 (Good): Minimal impact on health.

51-100 (Satisfactory): Minor breathing discomfort for sensitive individuals.

101-200 (Moderate): Breathing discomfort for people with lung, asthma, or heart conditions.

201-300 (Poor): Breathing discomfort for most people with prolonged exposure.
