Delhi Air Pollution: The National Capital’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 285 in the poor category at 8 am on Thursday, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). As many as 16 areas remained in the pollution red zone with AQI levels above 300. Rohini recorded the highest AQI at 343, while several other regions stayed under yellow alert with poor air quality.

On Wednesday, the 24-hour average AQI was 259, showing a slight improvement from 282 on Tuesday. After nine consecutive days of air quality in the very poor zone, the capital witnessed some relief starting Tuesday.

As per CPCB standards, an AQI of 0-50 is considered good, 51-100 satisfactory, 101-200 moderate, 201-300 poor, 301-400 very poor, and 401-500 severe.

Delhi-NCR AQI 

Faridabad recorded an AQI of 286, placing it in the poor category, while Gurugram reported a moderate AQI of 188. In Ghaziabad, Indirapuram logged an AQI of 288, also falling in the poor range. Gorakhpur reported a satisfactory AQI of 83, whereas Greater Noida registered 236 in the poor category. Noida’s air quality remained very poor with an AQI of 309, and Muzaffarnagar recorded 330, also classified as very poor.

Area-Wise AQI In Delhi

Air quality across Delhi remained largely in the very poor category on Thursday, with several locations reporting alarming pollution levels. Delhi Cantonment recorded an AQI of 302 (very poor), while Bawana logged 334 (very poor), DTU 331 (very poor), Jahangirpuri 341 (very poor), Mundka 326 (very poor), Nehru Nagar 339 (very poor), Siri Fort 288 (poor), Vivek Vihar 321 (very poor), Wazirpur 327 (very poor), Shadipur 266 (poor), and Akshardham 302 (very poor).

Other neighbourhoods also showed heavily polluted conditions: Alipur reported 309 (very poor), Anand Vihar 302 (very poor), Ashok Vihar 331 (very poor), Burari Crossing 293 (poor), Chandni Chowk 308 (very poor), Dwarka 285 (poor), IIT Delhi 215 (poor), ITO 309 (very poor), Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium 276 (poor), Lodhi Road 232 (poor), Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium 217 (poor), Mandir Marg 129 (moderate), Najafgarh 219 (poor), Narela 303 (very poor), DU North Campus 257 (poor), Okhla Phase-2 272 (poor), Patparganj 279 (poor), Punjabi Bagh 302 (very poor), RK Puram 311 (very poor), Rohini 343 (very poor), Sonia Vihar 303 (very poor), and Ghazipur 302 (very poor), AIIMS 226 (poor). 

A few locations showed comparatively better, though still unhealthy, air quality: IGI Airport T-3 recorded an AQI of 211 (poor), while India Gate and Kartavya Path reported 309 (very poor). Overall, the data indicates widespread and persistent air quality deterioration across the city.

Delhi Weather 

The minimum temperature in Delhi is expected to drop by up to 2 degrees Celsius compared to Wednesday. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city is likely to record a maximum temperature of 24 Degree Celsius and a minimum of 8 Degree Celsius today. On Wednesday, Delhi saw a minimum temperature of 10 Degree Celsius, around 0.4 degrees below normal, while the maximum settled at 25.2 Degree Celsius, also 0.4 degrees below normal.

The IMD has forecasted that northwest India, including Delhi, Noida, Faridabad, Gurugram, and nearby regions, will see no significant change in minimum temperatures for the next two days, followed by a rise of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the subsequent three days, after which temperatures are expected to stabilise. For Thursday, the weather agency has forecast partly foggy conditions, with the minimum temperature likely to hover around 8 Degree Celsius and the maximum around 24 Degree Celsius.
