Delhi Air Pollution: The national capital’s Air Quality Index (AQI) showed a slight improvement on Thursday morning even as temperatures continued to dip, with the AQI recorded in the poor category at 299 at 8 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Several monitoring stations reported readings in the very poor range. Of the 39 monitoring stations in Delhi, 19 reported air quality in the very poor category, 14 in the poor category, and 2 in the moderate range.

The city’s 24-hour average AQI settled at 342 at 4 pm, improving from 372 on Tuesday but worse than Monday’s reading of 304, according to CPCB data.

Delhi-NCR AQI 

Faridabad recorded an AQI of 194 (moderate), while Gurugram reported 220 (poor). Yamuna Nagar registered 146 (moderate), and Firozabad recorded 89 (good). Indirapuram in Ghaziabad reported an AQI of 279 (poor). Gorakhpur registered 101 (moderate), Greater Noida stood at 257 (poor), and Noida recorded a very poor AQI of 340. Muzaffarnagar reported 273 (poor).

Delhi Weather 

Amid persistent air pollution in the national capital, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for a cold wave in Delhi for Friday, with minimum temperatures expected to drop to 4-6 Degrees Celsius.

The IMD has warned of a further dip in temperatures over the next three to four days. The maximum temperature today is likely to touch 23 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may fall to around 6 degrees Celsius, making it colder than recent days. A cold wave alert has been issued for Friday, when the minimum temperature is expected to reach 5 degrees Celsius.

On the pollution front, the transport sector contributed 16 per cent of Delhi’s air pollution on Wednesday, the highest among local sources. According to PTI, transport emissions are estimated to account for 14.3 per cent of the city’s pollution load on Thursday.
