Weather Update: Chilly winters are finally set to grip the northern and central parts of India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that winds are likely to intensify cold wave conditions in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi-NCR, northwestern Maharashtra, and parts of Madhya Pradesh.

Delhi weather

In Delhi, morning and night chills can be felt as the temperature has registered a drop in recent days. The weather department has issued a yellow alert. A cold wave will prevail in Delhi.

Nights and evenings are also quite cold in Delhi, with the minimum temperature recorded at 7 °C on Wednesday (December 3, 2025). The IMD has predicted cold wave conditions at isolated places in Delhi on December 5, 2025.

The minimum temperature today (December 4, 2025) is expected to hover around 10-12 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Srinagar in Kashmir recorded a low of minus four degrees Celsius.

Srinagar recorded -4 degrees Celsius

Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar recorded a low of -4 degrees Celsius as snowfall has started in the mountainous region. The snowfall has brought down the temperature in Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir.

The mercury has dropped below freezing, with temperatures reaching -18 °C in some places. The snowfall has also increased the cold in the plains. Some roads, such as Rohtang, have been closed.

Situation in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Punjab

In the plains, icy winds blowing from the mountains have intensified the cold. The IMD has indicated that this year's winter season, due to the La Niña effect, could be the coldest in the last few decades.

In Punjab and Haryana, the mercury has dropped sharply, and cold wave conditions persist.

Rajasthan weather

Rajasthan is currently experiencing severe cold, and a yellow alert for a cold wave has been issued in several districts. Icy winds blowing from northern India have caused temperatures to drop sharply.

Fatehpur Shekhawati in Sikar is one of the coldest places, with a minimum temperature of around 3 degrees Celsius. Mount Abu also recorded temperatures near zero degrees Celsius, making it the coldest place in the state.

The weather department has issued a yellow alert for the Churu, Jhunjhunu, and Sikar districts for the next few days, warning of a cold wave. Following snowfall in the hilly states, cold winds are blowing in the plains, directly affecting Rajasthan's weather and increasing the cold.
