Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated a state-of-the-art bus terminal in Azadpur and flagged off 40 new electric buses to boost the capital's public transport fleet. The event was attended by Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, Regional MLA Rajkumar Bhatia, and senior dignitaries from the Transport Department and DTC.
Focus On Public Transport And Pollution Control
During the inauguration, the Chief Minister emphasised the government's commitment to making public transport world-class while simultaneously combating pollution. She stated that the new terminal, electric buses, and improved connectivity would ensure comfortable, safe, and pollution-free travel for the citizens of Delhi.
"The Delhi government is committed to re-establishing the DTC as a strong, profitable, and fully capable organization," CM Gupta said. She noted that every positive change visible in Delhi today is a result of the public's vote, which the government has converted into development and service.
Political Remarks: "Record Achievement In 8 Months"
Launching a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Chief Minister described the previous administration as a "government of advertisements." She remarked that while Delhi's transport system was neglected during previous regimes, the current government has set a new record by deploying 1,400 electric buses on the roads in just eight months.
Operational Details
Transport Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh highlighted the operational capacity of the new facility:
Route Coverage: A total of 116 buses will operate from the terminal across 21 major routes.
Fleet Composition: The majority of these buses will be electric.
Future Expansion: The Transport Department is continuously increasing the bus fleet based on route demand.
The Minister termed the redevelopment of the Azadpur bus terminal as a significant milestone in strengthening Delhi’s public transport system, citing rapid improvements in passenger facilities and environmental protection.

The newly constructed terminal and the buses are equipped with advanced amenities to ensure passenger convenience and safety.

Amenities: Modern waiting area, baby-feeding room, bus pass section, lockers and passenger utilities.
Infrastructure: Sheltered platforms, digital screens, signage, and a public announcement system.
Sustainability: Equipped with solar panels, a bio-digester, and a green energy-based system.
Security: Comprehensive CCTV surveillance.

Design: Low-floor and fully air-conditioned.
