After a prolonged wait, villagers in Delhi can expect a major boost in infrastructure as the Delhi Rural Development Board has approved a Rs 702 crore budget for development works across 147 villages. Officials estimate that departmental clearances and formalities will take around one to one-and-a-half months, paving the way for projects to begin from January next year.
A significant share of the budget, nearly Rs 500 crore, will go towards building and repairing roads and lanes in rural areas. The plan also includes the construction of 30 drains, 29 chaupals, and 17 parks and open gyms, aimed at transforming the overall landscape of Delhi’s villages.
The approval was granted during a meeting chaired by Board Chairman Rajkumar Chauhan at the Secretariat on Friday. The board cleared 377 development projects, covering roads, drains, community halls, panchayat ghars, cremation grounds, boundary walls, street and solar lighting, entry gates, wells, and libraries.
Among individual allocations, Dhansa village in the Najafgarh Assembly constituency received the largest provision of Rs 53.26 crore for local development. The meeting was attended by the board’s Vice-Chairman, Gajendra Daral and MLAs Rajkaran Khatri, Neelam Pahlwan, and Deepak Chaudhary.
Chairman Rajkumar Chauhan said that village development had remained stalled for a long time, but work will now gain momentum. Once formalities are cleared, projects will commence in January and are expected to be completed within three months. He added that in September, the Board had already sanctioned Rs 1,089 crore, and with the new approval, total sanctioned funds now stand at approximately Rs 1,800 crore.
