Efforts to reduce traffic congestion on Vikas Marg have seen progress, as the Public Works Department (PWD) has constructed two new U-turns in Laxmi Nagar on the recommendation of the Delhi Traffic Police.
Before these changes, drivers heading towards Laxmi Nagar Market from Shakarpur had to take a detour of nearly 1,200 metres, causing delays and fuel wastage. Traders had raised concerns about the inconvenience, prompting the authorities to act.

The newly constructed U-turns, one near Laxmi Nagar Metro Station and another near Laxmi Nagar Chungi, now allow vehicles travelling from Mother Dairy towards Laxmi Nagar to avoid the 800-metre detour. Traffic signals at Preet Vihar, Nirman Vihar, and Laxmi Nagar Market were closed last March, and four U-turns were earlier constructed to ease congestion.
Special Commissioner of Traffic Police, K Jagadeesan, stated that police presence has been increased at crowded intersections, including Khajuri Chowk, and barricades near Anand Vihar bus terminal have been removed. He emphasised that strategic interventions like these U-turns have helped reduce traffic jams on heavily congested roads.
The move is expected to save time and fuel for commuters while improving access to key commercial areas in Laxmi Nagar.
