Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government has taken a dual step to strengthen employment opportunities in Bihar, promoting women’s self-employment while filling large-scale government vacancies.
Under the newly launched Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana (Chief Minister’s Women’s Employment Scheme), financial assistance is being provided to one woman from each family to set up a self-employment venture.
The first instalment of Rs 10,000 is being directly transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account. After six months of successful operation, she will be eligible for additional support of up to Rs 2 lakh.

Officials said the scheme aims to make women financially independent while boosting family income and strengthening the local economy. Women over 18 years of age, permanent residents of Bihar, and associated with Jeevika groups are eligible to apply through both online and offline channels.
At the same time, the state government has begun recruitment for 69,430 posts across departments, including Police, Education, Health, Urban Development, Agriculture, and Panchayati Raj.
- The Urban Development and Housing Department will fill over 250 posts, including 62 posts for Legal Assistants and Planning Officers.
- The Education Department has announced 935 vacancies for teachers and AEDOs.
- Recruitment is also underway for police constables and sub-inspectors, while the Health Department and other departments are filling thousands of positions.
The government has set a long-term target of providing employment to 1 crore youth and creating 12 lakh government jobs between 2025 and 2030.
CM Nitish Kumar said the state remains committed to its resolve of “Rozgar har haath ko” (employment for every hand). He also urged people to remain cautious of fraud and ensure applications are submitted only through authorised portals and groups.
Officials added that these initiatives not only focus on creating self-employment opportunities for women but also provide secure government jobs for youth, marking a significant step toward making Bihar self-reliant and economically stronger.
